Restoring old negatives (11/22/08)

Those who began photography in the Photoshop era may not appreciate this as much as those of us who remember working exclusively with film. This photograph was shot in Ngurunit, Kenya, on negative film in 1987. Due to a lot of moving around, many of my negatives were not taken care of as well as they could have been. Thanks to Photoshop, and the patience to work on a single image for two hours or more, I was able to restore the image. No more negative cleaners, anti-static brushes and Edwal’s scratch-o-matic, or whatever they called it . . .

  1. Was it originally in black and white? I only ask because some of the bushes look grey. The shot looks great though, no scratches, I guess photoshop has its advantages.

  2. Originally in black and white, and colored in or something? No, it was a color negative. Those were just gray-brown, dry plants I guess . . .
